The theme for the 2021 IES Annual Conference is Brighter. Together.
Over the course of the last year, perseverance, persistence, and unity have all become key touchpoints throughout many aspects of our lives. This year’s conference theme not only speaks to those feelings and invokes a feeling of anticipation and hope for the year to come, but it also calls to mind the frenzy of research, development, and inspiration that has defined the last decade in lighting while acknowledging the growing importance of lighting as one of the many disciplines that combine to form the built environment.
This broad theme explores the relationship between light and the lighting community. The objective of this conference is to provide educational sessions and experiences relevant to the audience of lighting professionals, academics, and other design-related disciplines. This year’s theme is intended to spark the conversation about how light is used, how light affects the user, and how we affect and inspire each other. In addition to speaker presentations, the Conference program will also consist of technical papers and posters on a wide range of lighting-related topics.
Proposals are being accepted for the following conference activities:
Speaker Sessions (60 minutes, including 10-15 minutes for questions):
Deadline for Submission – April 12, 2021
Formats can include interactive sessions, lectures, and roundtable discussions. While the traditional lecture-style presentation is a fine and trusted format, we encourage you to be creative in your approach and welcome submissions that use video, live demonstrations, audience interaction, and other techniques to create new experiences for conference attendees.
Speaker sessions can investigate the role of lighting relative to:
- Application Case Studies
- Evidence Based Design research
- Controls
- Human Centric design & wellness
- Art and Communication
- Profitability and Economic Impact of Technologies
- Career: Education Planning and Business Building
For applicants who are submitting on behalf of more than one presenter please note you will need to complete the submission with the names of all presenters/bios and affiliations for each individual submission.
For applicants who are submitting more than one presentation a new submission must be created for each individual presentation, following the same guidelines as above.
Technical Papers & Presentations (30 minutes, including 5-8 minutes for questions):
Deadline for Submission – April 29, 2021
There are two classes of presentations:
- Peer-Reviewed Conference Papers (3000 words or less, with a maximum of 10 pages, submitted in the IES Conference paper format), 12 point font, double-spaced.
- Technical Presentations (refereed by an extended abstract which consists of up to 3 pages (maximum 800 Words). Authors are encouraged to include figures in their abstract to convey information on details and/or findings that will be covered in the paper. No formal paper will be required for technical presentations accepted under this category.
Acceptance decisions will be based on the potential technical quality, originality, impact, and relevance to the conference audience. Papers that have been recently published which would benefit from dissemination to conference attendees through a formal presentation or poster are also encouraged.
Peer-Reviewed Conference Papers and their slides, along with the slides for the Technical Presentations will appear in the Conference Proceedings.
Submitters will be notified regarding the status of their entry by May 13th.
Posters (To be presented in a poster session held during the manufacturer tabletop session):
Deadline for Submission – May 6, 2021
Posters will be evaluated for inclusion based on submission of an extended abstract that consists of up to 3 pages (maximum 800 Words). Authors are encouraged to include figures in their abstract to convey information on the details and/or findings which will be covered in the poster.
Submitters will be notified regarding the status of their entry by May 20th.
